Mayan Religion and Beliefs
Mayans believed the world went through cycles of creation and destruction continuously. Their beliefs gave a sense of order to their lives. Mayans had many Gods, meaning they were polytheistic. Religion centered on ritual sacrifice to appease their Gods. Mayans captured rivals for use in the sacrifial offerings. Ceremonial ball games between their mythical hero twins and gods of death. They believed that pleasing their gods would lead to good fortune, long lives and plentiful harvests.
